Today marks the premiere of a brand new drama on SBS, My Absolute Boyfriend. The show is based on a popular Japanese manga that also has a Japanese drama adaptation, Zettai Kareshi, that came in 2008 and a Taiwanese version as well that starred Gu Hye Sun and aired in 2010. The Korean adaptation stars Yeo Jin Goo as a humanoid robot built to act as a perfect boyfriend. Minah of pop group Girl’s Day, who became a household name after surprise hit Beautiful Gong Shim in 2016, stars as a special effects makeup artist who has always been unsuccessful in love but falls for the hero. Hong Jong Hyun (Dating Agency: Cyrano) plays a top star who will be rival in love for the hero.
This year Yeo Jin Goo has appeared in two back to back shows with sageuk The Crowned Clown airing from January to March. I wonder how the love of the heroine in the story will be reciprocated as the hero is a robot, but then Vicki in Small Wonder also showed emotions, so there is hope for a happy ending here as well!
My Absolute Boyfriend has PD of Flower Boy Ramyun Shop and Flower Boys Next Door at the helm with the writer of Mirror Of The Witch attached to it. It will air on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
