Most of the sageuks are set in Joseon Dynasty, but I like the look of characters in the Goryeo era more. The upcoming historical drama on MBC, The King Loves, takes the latter as its timeline. It is a fully pre-produced show and stars Im Shi Wan, Yoona and Hong Jong Hyun in the main roles. I was totally blown over by Im Shi Wan‘s performance in Misaeng back in 2014, so understated and subtle. Hence, I was looking forward to his next small screen project. Remember what I said about not being a sageuk lover? Well, now I will be watching not one but two sageuks for coming months as after getting totally entertained by last week’s premiered drama Moonlight Drawn By Clouds, I’m looking forward to this week’s premiere show — Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart: Goryeo. The latter is surely a star-studded drama as we have lots and lots of actors performing the K-version of a popular Chinese novel and drama. And that is probably the main reason I’m excited about the show. It is basically a romance story with some garnishing of fantasy elements. Continue reading →
