I said this before watching the first two episodes of new KBS drama Curtain Call and I felt it while watching too — it has old school drama vibes, in a good way. (The setting of the family, the hotel business, the disguised identity trope and the execution.) The drama boasts a strong cast, quality production and a story spanning decades and two countries. Korean dramas about behind the scenes shenanigans can be a hit or a miss. Some shows that based their plot on it are The World That They Live In (2008), Entourage (2016), King Of Dramas (2012) and The Producers (2015). The latest tvN drama Behind Every Star is also based on the entertainment industry and is a remake of French TV show Dix pour cent or Call My Agent! (2015 – Present). It is about the lives and relationships and struggles of actors and their managers. Continue reading →

I loved Yoo Seung Ho in I’m Not a Robot (2017) — his only drama that I’ve seen so far. The actor has confirmed his next show as Wavve’s Deal. It is a crime thriller drama based on an award-winning 2021 webtoon of the same title. It is about a fake kidnapping gone wrong. This is a popular trope used in thrillers and comedies and I’m interested to know how Deal would make it different. Yoo Seung Ho is joined by Kim Dong Hwi (Missing: The Other Side 2) and Yoo Su Bin (Start-Up, Crash Landing On You) in the cast. Continue reading →

This is an interesting and unexpected pairing! Kang Ha Neul (Misaeng, When the Camellia Blooms) and Ha Ji Won (Secret Garden, Chocolate) are coming together in new KBS drama Curtain Call which is premiering this Monday. The premise and look reminds me of old school/ early 2000s dramas — which is actually refreshing in current era. I like both the actors a lot and count me in as an eager viewer for this show. The drama also stars Kwon Sang Woo (Mystery Queen) in an important role. Continue reading →
