Oh this new Korean movie sounds compelling. Samjin Company English Class (also known as Samjin Group English TOEIC Class) is set in the 90s and stars Go Ah Sung, Esom and Park Hye Soo as three friends who work for a company called Samjin Company. They fail to secure a promotion as they don’t have a college degree despite working efficiently from past 8 years in the firm. Continue reading →

I love Park Hye Run‘s dramas. For the uninformed, she has penned shows like Dream High (2011), I Hear Your Voice (2013), Pinocchio (2014) and While You Were Sleeping (2017). Anchored by a good story, they are full of warmth and characters with strong values and idealism despite being flawed. The vibe is breezy and uplifting with humour and thrills excellently balanced. Her newest drama, tvN’s Start-Up has her signature style and I’m already liking it a lot more than I expected. Continue reading →

Jang Dong Yoon had a breakout role in popular period drama The Tale Of Nokdu (his earlier shows include A Poem A Day, Mr. Sunshine and School 2017) and it’s refreshing to see him in a completely different role and genre with the following series Search. It is a mystery thriller about a special military crew which is sent to find out the truth about mysterious disappearances and deaths in the demilitarized zone (DMZ). Colour me intrigued. The deluge of dramas in October had left me in a quandary about which one to start and which one to postpone for a later watch. Well, I was intrigued by the premise of Tale Of The Nine Tailed as the fantasy genre with folklore and myths has always piqued my interest, so this drama is the one I decided to go for. After 2 episodes, I can say it was a good choice. Continue reading →

There can be plenty of reasons to check out a drama. To me, the writers play a very important role. If I have liked their past works, chances are I might want to watch their new drama too. The new tvN drama Start-Up interests me for that very reason. It is penned by Park Hye Ryun of shows like I Hear Your Voice, Pinocchio and Dream High. This is her third drama with Suzy as her last show While You Were Sleeping also starred her in the lead role. Continue reading →
