First Impressions: Hundred Million Stars From the Sky / The Smile Has Left Your Eyes

Hundred Million Stars From the Sky or The Smile Has Left Your Eyes is in its third week but I recently finished the first two episodes of this intriguing drama that stars Seo In Guk (totally killing it in this role!), Jung So Min and Park Sung Woong in the lead roles and is a Korean adaptation of immensely popular 2002 Japanese drama called Sora Kara Furu Ichioku no Hoshi. I have not seen the original, hence there is nothing to compare and I guess that’s a good thing for me. Plus, this type of drama requires suspense and I’m happy to be curious, spooked and thrilled in this ride. Continue reading →

Oh this show is ADORABLE! And warm. And funny. I was not even anticipating Thirty But Seventeen, the new kid on the block over at SBS but with its premiere week, it has won my heart. Actually this should not be a surprise for me as I loved the writer’s previous show High School King Of Savvy and liked She Was Pretty. The drama also received good ratings so yay across the board. The first thing that one notices on starting new tvN drama Mr. Sunshine is its gorgeousness. The show is beautifully shot, each frame looks like a painting (think about the period portions of Goblin; only here the whole drama is washed with that loveliness.) The new show from star writer Kim Eun Sook with a cast of top names is also simultaneously airing on Netflix and I’m glad it has only one moniker unlike so many of its peers with multiple names. There are certain elements that one expects before watching a Park Hye Ryun drama (Dream High, I Hear Your Voice, Pinocchio) — warmth from everyday lives of the characters, humour, flawed but immensely likeable leads, moral values, high stakes — and the new SBS drama While You Were Sleeping fits seamlessly into this description.
