I loved The Producers, overall and especially in its initial days when it experimented with a brand new format of mixing elements of drama and variety, a mockumentary style to tell its narrative. Unfortunately it dropped that style to fit in with the large audience’s demand. The broadcast network KBS thankfully wanted to bring this refreshing treatment back again and hence, we have that in the form of The Best Hit. It’s a new variety-drama starting on June 2 in a new slot of Fridays and Saturdays, the same one which was invented for The Producers and later dropped. Continue reading →

The Wednesday-Thursday slot of KBS is sending off one queen to welcome the other. Detective thriller Mystery Queen is followed by Seven Day Queen, a romantic melodrama with a historical setting. It stars Park Min Young, Yeon Woo Jin and Lee Dong Gun in the lead roles and looks extremely graceful and beautiful in the promotional stills and posters. Continue reading →

This new KBS daily drama looks so sprightly and pleasant, perfect for a spring premiere. I don’t usually watch dailies but I like to read about them. Usually they are written in the same template but there are certain exceptions that can be found in the clichéd field that bring or at least try to bring some fresh factor with them. The first striking thing about this show is its name — The Rose of Sharon Has Bloomed (also called Lovers In Bloom). I don’t know what it has to do with the plot but the drama centers around a small police station. Continue reading →

I think the first thing I heard about K-entertainment was the movie My Sassy Girl. It was super popular (still is) and many of my non-kdrama-lover friends have at least heard about it. It was released in 2001 and stars Cha Tae Hyun and Jeon Ji Hyun in the lead roles. Its basic plot never made me excited to watch it and hence, I’ve still not seen the film. 2017 is bringing a small screen version of My Sassy Girl with same title Continue reading →

Sci-fi drama ‘Circle’ premieres on tvN with Yeo Jin Goo and Kim Kang Woo

When I think of Kdramas, sci-fi sounds like a distant term as I haven’t seen many cases where the dramas have adopted this genre. The only proper example that I can think of is Joseon X-Files aka Secret Investigation Records. Yes, there have been aliens in some shows but then I would rather put them in fantasy genre than sci-fi. The upcoming tvN drama Circle definitely looks grand, experimental and something totally brand new as far as Kdramas are concerned. It is divided into two time periods — one set in present 2017 and the other in future 2037. And there is alien invasion as well! Continue reading →
